PLC and Parent's Meeting Monday, July 21
Our mid-summer Patrol Leader's Council starts at 6:30 PM, and Parent's Meeting starts at 7:30 PM at EP United Methodist.
Summer Camp Return
The troop will be returning from camp on Saturday, July 19, at approximately 12:30 PM to the parking lot at Eden Prairie United Methodist Church. Please allow a little time there to put away troop gear and unload the trailers, then home for shower and some food. The boys should have some great tales to tell of fun at camp.
Centennial Recruiter Patch
You can earn a great looking patch if you recruit a new Scout into the troop! If yu think one of your friends might be interested in becoming a Scout, invite him to a meeting. If he joins, you can get this great looking patch that commemorates the 100th Anniversary of Scouting. See here for more information.
2007 June Patrol Campout Photos
Ms. Dungan has just uploaded some pictures of the June 2007 Patrol Campout. You can view them by clicking "Photo Gallery" at the top of this page.
We also have a few photos from the 2006 Seabase High Adventure, located in the same place. |
Website Photos
If you have photos of our scouts at recent campouts or service activities, please email them to webmaster@troop342.org. These are the sorts of things that will allow us to demonstrate some of the things that Troop 342 does, and is all about.
Merit Badge Cards
There has been some confusion about merit badge cards after the recent Court of Honor. Phillips Scout Camp does not issue blue cards. They send out a spreadsheet with all of the boys listed, and a notation that a badge is either “complete” or they give the number of the requirement that is not yet complete. We enter the information into the computer, and get a long list that Peter Harding takes up to council to get the badges. We take the list, and fill out blue cards for those that are not yet done so that a Scout can finish requirement 8 for fishing, for example, to complete the merit badge.
For merit badges not started at summer camp, the Scout needs to start a blue card. The first step is to come to me so that I can make a note in my records that he is starting the merit badge and give approval for him to begin work. He would then contact the counselor, do the work, and the counselor signs off with completion. The Scout should hold the card and be responsible for getting it to the counselor for signatures. Once done, the counselor keeps one third. The Scout brings it to me for entry and signature. I pass the card on to Peter Harding, who will get the badge from the Scout shop. Peter keeps one third of the card for the troop’s records, and the last third should be returned to the Scout with the award of the badge. Some counselors prefer to hold the blue cards to prevent loss. I am going to try to encourage those counselors to make sure the boys have the cards to encourage the boys to continue work on the badges.
